This Instant Pot Apple Cider is the perfect drink for the Fall season! It’s full of Autumn flavors and super easy to make.

Now that Fall is approaching, it’s time to ditch the lemonade and citrus drinks and make the change to all things pumpkin and apple.

Making homemade apple cider may sound intimidating, but when you make it using the Instant Pot pressure cooker it’s super easy and great for fall parties and get-togethers. And I like to serve it with donuts like these easy acorn donut holes.

Even though cider is considered a seasonal drink, you can enjoy this delicious beverage year round. Change it up by adding different ingredients – cranberries, lemon, oranges, and caramel are common cider options. Some peeps even make it a little boozy (only for the 21+ crowd).

Depending on what size pressure cooker you have you may need to scale the recipe back and make it in batches. Whatever you do, DO NOT fill the inner pot past the maximum line!

While it may take a little longer to prepare, it’s better to make in smaller batches if needed. But don’t worry, this isn’t a recipe you have to worry about messing up when altering it.

What You Need to Make Instant Pot Apple Cider

Apples

Brown Sugar

Water

Cinnamon Sticks

Kitchen Gadgets I Used

Instant Pot

Potato Masher – no we aren’t adding potatoes! We are using it to mash up the apples

Cheesecloth or Fine Mesh Strainer

Pitcher – you’ll need a pitcher that is airtight for storing the cider

How To Make Apple Cider in the Instant Pot

Start by cutting your apples into quarters and toss them into the inner pot. Don’t worry about the peels, cores, stems, and seeds – we’ll strain these out later.

Pour in 6 cups of water (make sure you don’t exceed the Max Fill line!). Then add the brown sugar and cinnamon sticks.

Place the lid on, switch the valve to Sealing and cook on high for 30 minutes. Perform a Quick Release when the timer goes off by moving the valve to the Venting position (watch out for the hot steam!).

Remove the lid and mash the apples by using a potato masher

Close the lid once again and push the valve to the Sealing position. Cook on high pressure for 30 more minutes.

Once it’s finished, quickly release the pressure.

Place the cheesecloth over a large bowl and pour the cider through the cloth to strain. If you don’t have a cheesecloth, you can use a fine-mesh strainer. Be careful when pouring – the inner pot will be hot!

Time to serve! This traditional drink is typically consumed warm, but you can drink it cold if that’s your preference.

How Long Does it Take to Come to Pressure?

Because this apple cider has so much liquid, it’s possible that it could take up to 30 minutes to come to pressure.

Our Favorite Apples to Use

Our favorite apples to use in this recipe are Honeycrisp, Braeburn, Granny Smith, Fuji and Gala but you can use different varieties. We choose to use these because they tend to have a sweet and tart profile and are better for cooking compared to other varieties.

How To Store

Store in an airtight pitcher for up to 5 days. You can keep it in the refrigerator or at room temperature. If you choose to leave it out on the counter it will only last about 24 hours.
