I must admit, every time I make this dessert dip it takes me back to when my kids were younger (and sometimes even my own childhood), but without the hassle of messing with a fire.

If you love cooking with your cast iron pan, you have to try my Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet. It’s a longtime family favorite dessert.

What You Need to Make Skillet S’mores Dip

Chocolate chips – you can use milk, semi-sweet, or a combination of chocolate chips. I do recommend using high-quality chocolate like Ghirardelli.

Marshmallows – grab a big bag of the large marshmallows.

Chocolate bars – these are just for garnish, but who doesn’t love a little extra chocolate on their smores?

How to Serve S’mores Dip

This is truly a personal preference, but here are several ideas we’ve tried over the years. If you’re having a party you could also set up a smores bar and offer several dipper options.

  • Pretzels
  • Animal crackers
  • Ritz crackers
  • Graham crackers
  • Graham cracker sticks
  • Vanilla wafers
  • Strawberries
  • Teddy Grahams

How to Make the Best S’mores Dip You’ve Ever Had

Before we get started, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.

Pour the chocolate chips into an 8″ cast iron skillet, creating an even layer.

Bake in the oven for a few minutes, until the chocolate is melted and looks glossy.

Take the skillet out of the oven and place it on the stovetop while you add the large marshmallows. You will use about 30 for an 8-inch skillet.

Put the skillet back in the oven and continue cooking for another 5 minutes or until your toasted marshmallows turn the color you prefer. We are a house divided on this – some like the marshmallows barely toasted and some like them charred.

If you prefer your marshmallows charred, be sure to keep a close eye on them so they don’t get too burnt. Unless that’s how you like them, of course.

Remove the skillet from the oven and serve with your favorite dippers.

Tips For Making Cast Iron Smores Dip

  • Place the marshmallows “standing up” rather than laying down – it makes it easier to serve.
  • Skillet s’mores dip is best served when it’s hot or warm. Once it cools, it will harden up. You can return the skillet back to the oven on Low heat if you find it needs reheating.
  • Don’t try to speed up the reheating process or the marshmallows will definitely burn since the dip has already been baked.
  • If you can’t find large marshmallows, the miniature version will work too (you’ll just need more than 30).
  • To double or triple the recipe, use a larger skillet or baking dish.
  • Need to keep the dip warm for a party? You can bake it in a aluminum pan and use a buffet style set up (chafing dishes) with sternos to keep it warmer longer.
  • You can also make these in the mini cast iron pans – fun for individual servings.

What Should I Do if I Don’t Have a Cast Iron Pan?

You can use any oven-safe baking dish or pie plate to make s’mores dip and it will still taste delicious.
