Looking for a fun and festive dessert to make your patriotic celebration sparkle? Red white and blue rice krispie treats are perfect! These colorful treats, with their vibrant colors, will stand out on your dessert table.
Line a baking pan with parchment paper and set it aside.
Reserve 1 1/2 cups of marshmallows for later use. Melt the remaining marshmallows and butter in a large pot over low heat. Stir slowly until everything is melted and smooth.
Take the pot off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
Fold in the Rice Krispies cereal, M&M’s, sprinkles, and the 1 ½ cups of reserved mini marshmallows. Mix everything until it’s well-coated.
Spread the cereal mixture evenly in the lined baking pan. Lightly press it down - don’t pack it too tightly or the treats will be dense and hard to eat.
Melt the red, white, and blue candy melts in separate piping bags or bowls. Use the low or defrost microwave setting in 30-second increments to avoid overheating. Snip a small piece off the tip of each piping bag and drizzle over the Rice Krispies treats. Add more M&M’s and sprinkles if you like.
Let it cool on the counter for 30 minutes to an hour before cutting into squares.
Notes
For best results use real butter rather than margarine.
Change up the colors and decorations for other holidays and occasions.
Store leftovers in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2-3 days.
