Line a baking sheet or pizza stone with parchment paper.
Arrange the crescent roll dough triangles with the wide ends in a circle, slightly overlapping, and with the points facing outward. It should look like a star when you're done.
In a small bowl, stir together the olive oil, minced garlic, parsley, oregano, and onion powder.
Spread about a teaspoon of the oil mixture over each triangle of crescent dough.
Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the herb mixture on the crescent dough.
Fold each piece of ham in thirds and lay one on top of the cheese on each piece of crescent dough.
Top the ham with the remaining shredded cheese.
Roll the crescent triangles inward, tucking the pointed ends under the wide ends and making sure to keep the ham and as much cheese as possible inside of each roll. Make sure the seams are tightly sealed before baking.
In another small bowl, mix together the melted butter, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Brush the butter mixture over the top and sides of the crescent ring.
Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the dough is no longer raw inside or underneath and the top is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 2-3 minutes before slicing the rolls and serving.
Notes
Cheese options: use a melty type of cheese like mozzarella, cheddar, Gruyere or Swiss.
Deli meat options: Black Forest ham or sliced turkey or chicken.
Add sliced pepperoncini or banana peppers for a zesty flavor. Pat the peppers dry before using.
After buttering the top of the ring, sprinkle with sesame seeds or coarse sea salt if desired.
Dipping sauces: Ranch dressing or honey mustard.
Recipe can be doubled: use 2 cans of crescent dough and double the other ingredients. Make a single, larger ring with the dough - make sure it fits your pan. To make it easier to form the ring, place a 4-5” bowl in the center of your pan then lay the dough around the bowl. Assemble as directed. The baking time will increase by 5-7 minutes.
Leftovers: these are best eaten fresh but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat in a 350 degree F oven or in the air fryer.
