Air fryer sausage and potatoes is a quick and easy home cooked meal ready in about 20 minutes. Made with smoked sausage, potatoes, peppers and onions with a flavorful seasoning blend.
My favorite kind of recipes are the ones where you can make the meat and sides in the air fryer at one time. I think of these as the air fried version of one-pan meals.
Sheet pan meals are the best when you don’t feel like cooking. They typically don’t require a lot of prep work and cleanup is a breeze. My air fryer chicken fajitas are another example of an easy one-pan meal.
And these sausage, peppers, and onions are also great for leftovers and meal prep. So feel free to make a double batch for future meals and lunches.
Smoked sausage cooks quickly in the air fryer because it’s typically pre-cooked. So you’re basically just heating it up and that doesn’t take long in the air fryer. And if you’re working with raw sausages check out how to make Italian sausage in the air fryer.
Ingredients Needed
Smoked sausage – you’ll want to use the precooked kind like Kielbasa, turkey Kielbasa, chicken sausage, or beef sausage.
Peppers – red and green bell peppers. We like to add jalapenos but you can leave them out if you don’t like spicy food.
Onion
Potatoes – use golden potatoes or russet baking potatoes
Spices: Creole seasoning, oregano, salt, pepper
Olive oil
How to Make Air Fryer Smoked Sausage
Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees F.
Place all of the ingredients in a large bowl and mix until everything is evenly covered with the oil and seasonings. Then transfer to the air fryer basket.
Cook for 15 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender. Be sure to shake the basket every 3 minutes.
Tips for Making Air Fryer Sausage and Potatoes
- Try to dice the potatoes so they are similar in size. This helps them to cook more evenly.
- Place a parchment paper liner in the basket after pre-heating and before adding food for easier cleanup. Alternatively you can use a foil liner if it’s approved for your air fryer model.
- For even cooking, don’t overfill the basket. If you have a smaller air fryer you may need to cook in batches.
- Cook for a couple of extra minutes if you like crispier sausage and potatoes.
- Swap the peppers and onions for your other favorite vegetables.
- If you are using kielbasa sausage, you may want to dial back the seasonings some since it already has a distinctive flavor.
Common FAQs
Yes, it’s the same. While sausage is an umbrella term for all of the different blends out there, kielbasa literally means sausage in Polish. This type of sausage is typically pre-seasoned as well.
You can, but it takes longer to cook. I don’t recommend cooking the sausage whole unless you’re making it without the peppers and onions. Plus you miss out on the crispy edges you get on the smaller-sized slices.
Yes, but I don’t recommend waiting to add the peppers and onions if you do this. You can air fry the frozen sausage at 350 degrees F until it thaws, then slice, add the potatoes, peppers, onions and seasonings and finish cooking.
How to Store
