There’s just something about the combination of garlic bread, melty cheese and tender roast beef that hits right. And these Garlic Bread French Dips bring it all together in the easiest way.

Sliced deli beef is simmered in a savory au jus, piled on crispy Texas toast and topped with provolone cheese. Just pop them in the oven until everything is gooey and golden, and you’ve got a sandwich that’s comforting, cheesy, and full of flavor.

Garlic Bread French Dip Ingredients Needed

  • Dry au jus seasoning mix – Adds rich, beefy flavor in minutes without having to make au jus from scratch.
  • Water – Blends with the seasoning mix to create the perfect dipping sauce.
  • Frozen garlic Texas toast – Using frozen garlic bread saves time and gives the sandwiches another layer of flavor.
  • Provolone cheese – It’s creamy with a mild flavor and melts perfectly.
  • Deli roast beef – Grab thin slices so they warm quickly in the au jus.
  • Dried parsley (optional) – For a pop of color and a hint of freshness.

Tips for Making Texas Toast French Dips

  • Add caramelized onions or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • You’ll want to serve these sandwiches immediately – they taste best fresh out of the oven.

Recipe Substitutions & Variations

  • Cheese – Swap provolone for Swiss cheese, mozzarella, or pepper jack.
  • Bread – Use slider buns, ciabatta, hoagie rolls, or baguette slices instead of Texas toast.
  • Roast beef – Deli turkey or chicken can be used as a different option.
  • Toppings – Try sautéed mushrooms, onions, or peppers for a heartier sandwich.
  • Dipping sauce – Use homemade au jus, beef broth, or even onion soup mix in place of a seasoning packet.
  • French dip sliders – follow the same instructions, except use slider buns or Hawaiian rolls to create a mini version.

Can I make Roast Beef French Dips ahead of time?

These are best fresh, but you can prep the au jus and slice the cheese and roast beef ahead of time. Then assemble and bake just before serving for the best texture.

What to Serve with Garlic Bread French Dip Sandwiches

These sandwiches are filling on their own, so it’s best to pair them with a lighter side or salad like this copycat Panera Greek Salad or Air Fryer Roasted Red Potatoes if you’re a meat and potato lover.

How to Store Garlic Texas Toast French Dips

While these are best eaten freshly cooked, you can store leftover sandwiches in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 325°F until warmed through. This helps to keep the bread crisp and the cheese melty (microwaving can make them soggy).

Keep any leftover au jus separately in a sealed container in the fridge for 3–4 days. Warm it on the stovetop before serving again.

What kind of bread works best for French dip sandwiches?

Garlic Texas toast adds extra flavor, but you can also use hoagie rolls, ciabatta, or slider buns, depending on how you want to serve them.

The next time you want a quick and easy dinner, garlic French dips will be at the top of your list. Don’t forget they’re also great for game days and parties.
