Mediterranean Burger Ingredients
For the burgers
- Ground Beef – I used super lean 93/7.
- Onion – Finely chop the red onion before adding to the burger mixture.
- Crumbled Feta cheeseย – We’re doing a double helping of this tangy cheese. Mixing it into the meat adds a salty and tangy kick to the beef patties. And using it as a topping adds a burst of flavor at the end.
- Olive Oil – A staple in Mediterranean-style cooking, it adds a rich flavor.
- โHerbs – Fresh parsley and dill add a bright flavor to the dish.
- Spices – I also used garlic powder, oregano, kosher salt, and black pepper to season the patties.
- Buns – Brioche buns or classic hamburger buns are good options.
For the tzatziki sauce
- Yogurt – Plain, whole milk yogurt works best.
- Fresh produce – Diced cucumber and juice of half a lemon
- Olive Oil – Adds a rich flavor to the dip.
- Seasonings – Dill, sea salt and black pepper.

How to Make Mediterranean Burgers
Combine the sauce ingredients and set aside.
Add the ground beef, onion, feta, olive oil, fresh herbs, and seasonings in a mixing bowl. Mix well to combine but don’t overwork the beef.
โNext, divide the ground meat mixture into four equal portions and shape the patties.
Using a large skillet, pan-fry the patties over medium-high heat as directed until they’re fully cooked.
Then remove the patties from the heat and allow them to rest a bit before serving.
When you’re ready to serve place patties on the buns and add your favorite toppings.
Tips for Making Mediterranean-Style Hamburgers
- Use ground turkey for a lighter version or ground lamb for a more traditional style burger.
- Use your thumb to press a circular indent in the center of the raw patties, which will help them not shrink as they cook.
- Feel free to add any of your favorite Greek seasonings to the meat mixture.
- You can cook the hamburgers to your preferred doneness. I like mine cooked medium with a golden brown crust for added flavoring.
- These can be cooked outside on a grill if you don’t want to use the stovetop method.
- Be sure to let them rest before serving. This locks in the juices for the best flavor and texture.
- Kalamata olives and thinly sliced cucumbers are great burger toppers.
Can I make this dish ahead of time?
You can prepare the homemade tzatziki sauce and patties in advance if needed. Just store them in an airtight container in the fridge, separating the patties with plastic wrap. The sauce should be stored separately, in the refrigerator.ย
โYou can make the patties up to 24 hours ahead of time. I like to remove them from the frig 5-10 minutes before starting, then cook them as directed. You may need to add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
What to serve with feta burgers
These pair well with crisp veggies like red peppers, cucumber slices and carrot sticks. Or whip up a bowl of this Greek salad. For something a little heartier, try my favorite pasta salad.
How to store leftover hamburgers
Place leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. You can reheat them in a skillet or microwave when you’re ready to eat.
While I haven’t tried freezing the patties, they should be OK to freeze for 1-2 months. Then, thaw in the fridge overnight or reheat straight from the freezer.
