These soft mini pretzels filled with ham and cheese are a great pick if you want a handheld appetizer, snack or dinner that’s quick to make. The pretzel gives you a salty, chewy base that contrasts well with the sweet honey ham and sharp cheddar cheese.
And the hot honey butter melts into the tops of the rolls as they bake, adding a sweet finish with a little kick from red pepper flakes. Every bite is sweet, salty and lightly spicy, so you don’t need any sauces or condiments on the side.
Plus everything tastes better in mini size, right?! If you enjoy the ham and cheese flavor combo, be sure to try our Ham and Cheese Crescent Ring and Air Fryer Ham and Cheese Pinwheels recipes.

What is hot honey?
It’s a blend of sweet honey and chili flakes or hot peppers. It tastes mostly sweet at first, then finishes with a gentle heat. In this recipe, it’s combined with melted butter so it brushes easily over the tops of the sliders for a sweet and spicy kick. You can also buy hot honey if you like (try it drizzled over cheesy pizza!).

Ham and Cheese Pretzel Bites Ingredients Needed
- Mini pretzel bites – You can find these in the bread or deli section of your grocery store. We used the Hawaiian brand rolls for this recipe.
- Honey ham – Thinly sliced deli ham adds both sweetness and a savory flavor.
- Cheddar cheese – Break the slices into smaller pieces so they fit neatly on each pretzel bite.
- Butter – Melted and mixed with the honey to create the glaze. Unsalted is fine since the ham and pretzels can be salty.
- Honey – Adds sweetness to balance the salty pretzels and ham.
- Red pepper flakes – Stirred into the honey butter for a mild spicy finish.

How to Make Mini Pretzel Bites with Ham and Cheese
Slice the pretzel bites and space the bottoms out in a baking dish.
Add pieces of cheese, a slice of ham and some more cheese on top of each one, then top with the pretzel tops.

Melt the honey, butter and red pepper flakes together in the microwave, then brush or drizzle over the assembled sliders.

Bake until the cheese is melted and then serve hot.
Tips for Making Hot Honey Ham and Cheese Sliders
- Use a serrated knife to cut the pretzel bites.
- Layer cheese on both sides – Adding cheese under and over the ham helps everything melt together and hold in place.
- Don’t overbake – Remove from the oven as soon as the cheese is melted, to keep the pretzel bites soft.
Recipe Substitutions & Variations
- Switch the cheese – Try Pepper Jack for more heat or Swiss for a milder flavor.
- Change the ham – Black Forest ham or smoked ham both work well.
- Skip the heat – Leave out the red pepper flakes for a sweet honey butter glaze without the spice.
- Add mustard – Spread a little Dijon or wholegrain mustard on the bread before adding the first cheese layer if you love that cheese, ham and mustard combo!
Can I make pretzel bite sliders ahead of time?
You can assemble the sliders a few hours ahead and keep them covered with plastic wrap in the refrigerator. Wait to add the hot honey butter until just before baking though, or else the bun tops will get soggy. Remove from the refrigerator while the oven preheats, brush on the glaze then bake as directed.
What to Serve with Mini Ham and Cheese Pretzel Bites
Pair these delicious sweet and savory bites with a Vegetable Salad or Sweet Potato Wedges if you’re making them for lunch or dinner. Or if you’re setting up a party spread, serve them with Ranch Beer Cheese Dip, Grape Jelly Meatballs, and a big bowl of Country Style Potato Salad.

How to Store Leftover Ham and Cheese Pretzel Sliders
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat covered in the oven or air fryer until warmed through, so the cheese melts again and the pretzel softens.
Can I freeze stuffed pretzel bites?
Freezing isn’t ideal, as the pretzel texture can change once thawed. These are best enjoyed freshly made or within a few days.
Can I use a different type of pretzel?
Yes, any small, soft pretzel roll or pretzel slider bun will work as long as it can be sliced and filled. These brioche slider rolls are really good (look for them in the bread aisle).
These ham and cheese pretzel bites are sweet, salty and just the right amount of spicy with melty cheddar in every layer. The pretzel base and hot honey glaze give them a flavor that stands out from other sliders and you’ll find that one is never enough.
