Edible gifts are a great choice for the friend who has everything or if you need a hostess, teacher or neighbor gift. We’ve been giving edible gifts for years and everyone loves to receive them.

The most expensive part can be the mason jars, but if you’ve canned in the past you can reuse your old canning jars and lids. Because the lids don’t need to suction down tightly (as with canning) used ones are fine for this gift. Or repurpose empty jars from pantry items you’ve used.

We created printable gift tags that include the additional ingredients needed to add to the chocolate chip cookie mixture, along with instructions for three different sized jars: 8 ounces, 16 ounces, and 32 ounces.

You can print the tags in color or black and white. Punch a hole in the tag and attach it to the jar with your favorite holiday ribbon.

Assembling Mason Jar Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix

For a layered look, we recommend measuring out the ingredients before adding them to the mason jar. Then fill the jars in this order: flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, baking soda, topping off with the chocolate chips.

Not a fan of the layered look? Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl, then pour ingredients into the jar.

The ingredient measurements will vary based on the number of cookies you are making, but the instructions will be the same. See the recipe card below for complete measurements and instructions.

In a medium to large mixing bowl, combine the butter, eggs, and vanilla. Then add the dry ingredients and mix together using an electric or stand mixer. Beat until the batter is the consistency of cookie dough.

Place the cookie dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet using a tablespoon or cookie scoop

Bake for 12 minutes at 350 degrees. Take the cookies out of the oven and let them rest for a couple of minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Alternatively you can cook the chocolate chip cookies in the air fryer.

Printable Instruction Tags for Gift Giving

Sign up below to receive the instruction gift tags directly to your inbox. You’ll receive 6 sheets of tags that can be used for the different sizes of jars.

If you need more tags, simply print off additional copies. We’ve included a black and white style along with a colored version.

We recommend using a heavy cardstock to make the tags a little more durable. But you can use your favorite paper color or print them on plain white cardstock.

After printing, cut the tags just outside of the dotted line. Then use a hole puncher to make a hole where the circle is in the tag. Finally, attach tags to the jars with festive yarn or ribbon.

If you don’t want to attach the tags to the jars, paste a trimmed tag inside of a greeting card to go along with the cookie mix.
