I use my air fryer for all my grilled sandwiches these days. It’s quick, and I love how crispy and crunchy the bread gets without having to stand over a skillet.

This Air Fryer Turkey Sandwich recipe is loaded with deli turkey, crispy bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, and tomato. And it’s ready in about 10 minutes, making it a great option for a quick lunch or simple dinner. Plus, it’s easy to switch up the ingredients so you can use what you have in the fridge.

I love a good turkey sandwich, but what’s even better is when it’s heated and topped with bacon and cheese, transforming an average sandwich into a delicious club melt. If you aren’t making toasted sandwiches in the air fryer what are you waiting for?!

Air Fryer Turkey Sandwich Ingredients Needed

  • Bread – Use your favorite sliced bread, keeping in mind thicker slices may need a little more time in the air fryer.
  • Turkey – Pre-sliced deli meat makes for a quick prep.
  • Bacon – Use pre-cooked bacon so it’s ready to layer into the sandwiches.
  • Cheddar cheese – Gives the sandwich a cheesy layer alongside the turkey and bacon.
  • Lettuce and tomato slices – Add flavor and crunch. Romaine and leaf lettuce work well.
  • Mayonnaise – Adds a creamy spread to the sandwich.

How to Make Turkey Sandwiches in the Air Fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 350°F.

Spread the mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice.

Divide the turkey, cooked bacon, and cheese between two slices of bread. Add the lettuce and tomato slices now, or wait until after air frying if preferred. Then add the remaining bread slices.

Carefully place the sandwiches in the basket. Cook until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted to your liking, about 3-5 minutes.

Let the sandwiches rest for a couple of minutes and remove any toothpicks before serving.

Tips for Making Air Fryer Turkey Club Sandwiches

  • Secure the bread. Air circulation can lift the top slice of bread. Inserting toothpicks in the bread corners will hold the sandwich together.
  • Watch the bread. Thicker slices may need more time, so start checking around the 3-minute mark to avoid overtoasting.
  • Use cooked bacon. The short cook time is based on using precooked bacon. I cook a pound at a time so I have it on hand throughout the week.
  • Lettuce and tomato can be added before or after cooking. I’ve tried both ways. If you like your lettuce crisp and your tomatoes cool, add them after cooking.
  • Don’t overload the basket. Leave enough room so the sandwiches don’t overlap.

Recipe Substitutions and Variations

  • Use leftover turkey: Replace the deli meat with leftover cooked turkey. This is especially handy if you have Thanksgiving leftovers.
  • Change the cheese: Sliced Havarti, Swiss, provolone, or your favorite melting cheese can be used.
  • Switch the bread: Try sourdough, whole wheat or any sturdy sandwich bread, keeping in mind the toasting time may vary.
  • Change the spread: Mustard or use a combination of mayonnaise and Dijon mustard for a tangier flavor.

What to Serve with Air Fryer Turkey Sandwiches

For lunch, I go with simple sides like homemade potato chips, pickle spears, or fresh fruit salad. And for dinner, pair them with something a little more substantial, like French fries, air fryer sweet potato wedges, simple green salad, or a pasta salad with bacon.

How to Store Leftover Toasted Turkey Sandwiches

These sandwiches are best served right after cooking. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container and eat within a day, keeping in mind the bread will soften and the vegetables will lose their crispness.
