This Creamy Southwest Dressing is made from scratch with only 5 ingredients. It’s full of flavor and has a zesty kick from the fresh lime juice.

If you’ve seen my copycat Chipotle Chicken Bowl, you understand why I was inspired to create a simple Southwest salad dressing to make it complete.

Not to mention after seeing what is in some of those other recipes online. I mean come on – 15 ingredients for a dressing? That’s bananas!

One thing about A Reinvented Mom is that I like to keep things as simple as possible around here. So I found a way to make this delicious Chipotle-style sauce (or dressing, whichever you would like to call it) with only 5 ingredients. All of which are probably in your cabinets and fridge right now!

I also use this dressing as a sauce. It’s a great condiment on burgers or hot dogs, dip your fries in it, add it to your tacos, salads, and wraps. So versatile and it stores well, too, just like my homemade Big Mac Sauce.

If you love southwest and Tex-Mex flavors don’t forget to try my Fiesta Salad and Better Than Takeout Taco Salad.

Ingredients for Southwest Dressing

Greek yogurt or Mayonnaise – Greek yogurt is a healthier option and has a ton of protein, but you can use your favorite mayo as well.

Lime juice – don’t skip the fresh limes! I know it’s easier to reach for the bottled kind, but with a limited ingredient recipe you’ll definitely notice a difference in flavor.

Chili powder and ground cumin – if you don’t have these in your spice cabinet you can substitute with 1 teaspoon of taco seasoning.

Taco or hot sauce

How To Make Homemade Southwest Dressing

This couldn’t be any easier. All you have to do is combine all of the ingredients together and mix until smooth and creamy.

You can use a whisk, blender, or immersion blender, totally up to you.

If you want to make it thicker (more like a sauce) add more greek yogurt or mayonnaise. To get the same flavor you may need to add some additional lime juice, spices, and hot sauce to balance it out.

Serve over my favorite Copycat Chipotle Chicken Bowl.

How Long Does Homemade Salad Dressing Last?

Since this dressing is dairy-based, it will last up to a week in the fridge. I store leftover dressings in this handy glass shaker bottle. Other dressings such as vinaigrettes last longer because they are oil-based.

What I Love About Making Homemade Dressings

Let’s be honest, store-bought dressing can be expensive. Especially when everyone in your family enjoys a different flavor.

And how many times have you bought a condiment and it goes bad because you needed it for just one recipe? Same here.

Making dressings at home is one of the easiest things you can do. And it’s a nice way to cut your budget and food waste.

Not to mention you can skip the undesirable additives and preservatives you’ll find in the commercial salad dressings. Did you know that a bottle of Newman’s Southwest Dressing has 20 ingredients? Kraft’s version has over 25 with a handful that you can’t even pronounce!

Even if you’re not the healthiest person, small changes like this can add up over time.
