What Are Jello Shots?

This popular party drink is made by mixing a combination of flavored gelatin, water, and alcohol. It’s poured into small individual cups and refrigerated to set up. Once the gelatin mixture has solidified, the cups can be served and consumed like a regular shot of alcohol.

But don’t be fooled by this simple recipe – the flavor combos are unlimited! More flavor options are listed further down. And be sure to check out our tips in can you freeze jello shots.

Tips for Making Strawberry Lemonade Jello Shots

  • We like to use disposable shot cups with lids for this this recipe because they are easier to store.
  • Do not add more than a cup of vodka. The shots will not set up correctly and will be runny if there is too much alcohol.
  • Use an injector to fill the shot glasses – it’s less messy. You can also use a measuring cup that has a spout on it.
  • It’s easier to use a rimmed cookie sheet or serving tray to transfer the shots to the fridge.
  • Garnish when you are ready to serve versus storing them with the garnish added to avoid the shots breaking down.
  • This recipe makes about 20 shots using 2-ounce cups.
  • If you need to double this recipe, make each batch separately for best results.
  • Keep the shots cool until you are ready to serve. They will liquify in the summer heat if not refrigerated. You can also use an inflatable serving bar to keep the shots cool during the party.

How to Store Leftover Jell-O shots

Store the jello shooters in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

If you’re using plastic cups with lids, we recommend storing them covered and without a garnish.

SUBSTITUTIONS & VARIATIONS

  • Make pink lemonade jello shots by using strawberry vodka or Svedka strawberry lemonade vodka.
  • Up the citrus flavor by using a lemon flavored vodka.
  • Sugar-free jello can be used if preferred.
  • For a fun presentation, make lemon wedge jello shots by using empty lemon halves in place of the shot cups. Carefully shave a little off the bottom of the lemon halves so they sit flat on the baking sheet or place in a muffin tin. After the mixture has set, use a sharp knife to slice the halves into smaller lemon wedges before serving.

What to Serve With Strawberry Lemonade Jell-o Shots

This fruity jello shot goes well with fun party food such as a crudite board, crunchy ranch pretzels, or a charcuterie pinata ball. If you have kids around, you can offer them banana pudding pops or dragon fruit popsicles, which are also fun to make!

  • Store in the refrigerator with the lids on, for up to one week.
