Make these easy cheesesteak egg rolls in the air fryer for an appetizer or main course meal. Each bite delivers the traditional hot Philly cheesesteak flavor wrapped in a crunchy egg roll wrapper.
Made with steak, veggies and cheese, this recipe started as a holiday appetizer. And it was only a matter of time before they were added to our game day lineups.
And now these steak and cheese egg rolls show up in our regular meal rotation. It’s kind of a no brainer when the entire family loves them (you gotta love the “no whining” meals, right?!).

Once you get the hang of rolling them up, the ideas for fillings are endless. And these are ready in less than 30 minutes when cooked in the air fryer, making it an easy weeknight meal.
Another reason this recipe is so awesome is because egg rolls freeze well. I recommend making a double batch and freezing half of them. Then the next time you don’t feel like cooking you can take a few from the freezer and pop them in the air fryer for an easy meal or snack.

How to Make Air Fryer Cheesesteak Egg Rolls
PREP: Dice the onions and peppers. Mince the garlic cloves, and set aside. Cut the steak into thin slices, then dice.
Lori’s Prep Tip:
The meat will be easier to slice if you freeze it for a bit. Place the meat on a tray and place in the freezer for 30-60 minutes for thinner cuts and up to 1-2 hours for thicker cuts. You don’t want it frozen solid, just firmed up. Remove meat from the freezer and cut thin slices, going against the grain.
Add the oil to a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the onion and peppers and saute until they’ve softened.
Stir in the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, steak, salt, and pepper. Cook until the meat is fully browned, then drain the juice for au jus.
Lay an egg roll wrapper in front of you so it’s turned in the shape of a diamond. Add two to three spoonfuls of meat mixture just below the center and top with 2 tablespoons of cheese.
Dip your finger in a little water and wet the edges of the wrapper. Fold in the right and left corners towards the center. Then bring up the bottom and roll, gently squeezing out air as you go. Lightly wet the corner that’s showing so it seals closed. Repeat until all egg rolls are made.
Spray the basket with oil or use a parchment paper liner. Place the Philly egg rolls in the basket, leaving a little room between each one. Spritz the egg rolls with a light coating of oil.
Air fry at 380 degrees F for 4 minutes, then flip and continue cooking for another 4 minutes. Allow the egg rolls to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
Oven Instructions
To make these in the oven, follow all of the prep and assembly instructions. Place the egg rolls on a parchment lined baking sheet and cook for 18-20 minutes at 400 degrees F. Turn them at the halfway point.
Tips for Making Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls
- To save on prep time, look for pre-shaved steak at the grocery store.
- Freezing the steak for 20-30 minutes before cutting will make it easier to slice.
- A Granton blade knife makes slicing meat a breeze.
- While you are working in batches, keep the egg roll wrappers covered with a damp paper towel so they don’t dry out.
- Resist overfilling the wrappers – they may split if overstuffed.
- Use an oil mister to lightly spritz the egg rolls with oil.
- Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook these in batches.
- Cheesesteaks are normally served with warm Cheese Whiz, but you can also use ranch, queso or the au jus if preferred.
Storing and Reheating
Keep leftover cheesesteak egg rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheat in the oven or air fryer at 350 degrees F for 3 to 5 minutes or until they are warmed through.
How to freeze: Once the egg rolls have cooled completely, place them on a baking sheet in the freezer for 1-2 hours, or until they are frozen solid. Transfer them to a freezer bag where they will stay fresh for 1-2 months.
