How to Make Pasta Chips in the Air Fryer
Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted water. Once the noodles are al dente, remove from heat, drain them and set aside.
Coat the noodles with olive oil, Italian seasoning, parmesan, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Toss gently to coat evenly.
Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F.
Add the pasta in batches, being careful not to overload the basket, and cook for 12 to 15 minutes. Give the basket a good shake a couple of times throughout the cooking process.
Transfer the pasta chips to a serving dish and allow them to cool slightly before eating. Repeat with remaining noodles.
Can You Make Pasta Chips Without an Air Fryer?
Yes! You can bake the parmesan pasta chips on a parchment-lined baking sheet at 400 degrees F until they are crispy (about 15-20 minutes depending on the pasta you are using). The baked version will not be as crisp as the ones made in the air fryer.
If you are into deep frying, you could try that option as well.

What’s the best shape pasta to use for pasta chips?
When choosing the pasta, consider the size of a potato chip. You want a noodle that is big enough to hold and dip, which is why we go with bow tie. Other good choices are penne, rigatoni, ziti, or rotini.

Pasta Chip Variations
Cinnamon & Sugar: Boil the pasta, drain, then coat with a little oil. Toss in a cinnamon-sugar blend that is similar to a churro. Serve with a chocolate or caramel sauce or a thin cream cheese icing.
Salt & Vinegar: Substitute the other seasonings for salt and a couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to toss the cooked pasta in.
Buffalo: Combine Frank’s Red Hot sauce with a little ranch seasoning, then air fry to perfection.
Everything Bagel: Use this seasoning in place of the others and toss the cooked noodles with a little oil.
Can pasta noodle chips be stored for later?
While air fried pasta chips are best eaten fresh, you can store them in an airtight container on the counter for 3-4 days. You can place them back in the basket to reheat for a couple of minutes if desired.
Expert Tips for Making TikTok Bow Tie Pasta Chips
- You want to make sure your pasta is cooked al dente or just a little beyond. If the noodles are really underdone and you air fry them, they’ll end up hard like eating raw pasta rather than crispy.
- Use parchment paper liners for easy cleanup or spray the air fryer basket with an oil mister.
- To make these ahead of time for a party, you can boil the pasta, then coat it lightly with oil so it doesn’t clump up. Keep it refrigerated until you are ready to make the pasta chips. Allow the noodles to come to room temperature before cooking them in the air fryer.

- ½ cup grated parmesan
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon crushed black pepper

- Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C.
- While the air fryer is preheating, toss the cooked and drained pasta with olive oil, parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, red chili flakes, salt, and crushed black pepper. Gently toss to evenly coat the pasta.
- Air fry in batches for 12-15 minutes or until golden and crispy, shaking the basket a couple times during the cooking process to ensure even cooking.
- Remove from the air fryer and allow pasta chips to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve with Whipped Feta Dip, marinara or your favorite dipping sauce.
- Substitute bowtie pasta for other large pasta shapes like rigatoni, ziti, penne or rotini. Use whole wheat pasta for a healthier version.
- Oven bake instructions: place the cooked & seasoned pasta on a parchment lined sheet pan. Bake at 400 degrees F until they are crispy (about 15-20 minutes depending on the pasta you are using).
- Pasta chips are best eaten fresh but can be stored in an airtight container on the counter for 3-4 days.
