While a taco ring is great choice for Taco Tuesday, it’s also perfect if you’re looking for recipes to add to your taco party menu. Another favorite go-to, especially on busy nights, is this classic taco salad recipe.
Just a little tip that I use to save time and meal prep is making crockpot taco meat. You can use it in any recipe that calls for taco-seasoned ground beef and it stays fresh for up to 3 months in the freezer.

Taco Crescent Ring Ingredients Needed
- Lean ground beef – Keeps the filling flavorful without being greasy, my preference is a 93/7 blend.
- Taco seasoning mix – Use a store-bought packet or homemade taco seasoning.
- Water – mixes with the taco seasoning to make the sauce.
- Crescent roll dough – Keep the dough in the frig until you’re ready to make the ring.
- Cheddar cheese – use freshly shredded for the best melting or pre-shredded for convenience.
- Topping suggestions – shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, pico de gallo, sour cream, taco sauce, green onions, black olives.

How to Make a Taco Ring with Crescent Roll Dough
Preheat the oven and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or use a pizza stone.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks (I use a meat chopper for this). Once fully cooked, drain off any excess grease.
Stir in the taco seasoning and water, then let the mixture simmer until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.

Unroll the crescent dough and separate into triangles. Arrange them in a circle on the baking sheet with the wide ends toward the center and the pointed ends facing outward, overlapping slightly to form a dough ring.
Spoon the ground beef filling evenly around the center of the ring on the wide ends of the dough.

Sprinkle cheese over the entire filling.
Fold the pointed ends of the crescent roll triangles over the filling and tuck them underneath to seal the ring.

Bake until the crescent dough is cooked through and golden brown.
Let cool slightly, then slice and serve with your favorite toppings.
Tips for Making a Crescent Taco Ring
- Keep the crescent dough cold until you’re ready to assemble – cold dough is easier to work with and it helps keep the crescent roll triangles intact while forming the ring.
- Placing a small bowl or 5-inch circle in the center of the pan can help guide the shape of the ring.
- Don’t overload the center of the ring so the dough cooks evenly underneath.
- Let the ring rest for a few minutes before slicing so the filling stays in place.
Recipe Substitutions & Variations
- Meat: Swap ground beef for ground turkey or ground chicken. You could also use seasoned shredded chicken.
- Dough: Use crescent dough sheets instead of perforated dough if that’s what you have on hand.
- Cheese: Replace cheddar cheese with pepper jack or a Mexican blend.
- Spicy: Add hot taco seasoning or extra taco sauce if you like a little heat.

What to Serve with a Taco Ring Bake
You’ll want to choose simple, tasty sides like Mexican-style street corn and 6-ingredient fiesta salad to help lighten up the rich, flaky dough. For dipping or drizzling, Homemade Taco Bell Baja Sauce is always a hit or make a quick sauce by mixing salsa with sour cream.

How to Store Leftover Crescent Taco Ring
Keep leftover pieces in the refrigerator for 2-3 days in an airtight container. Reheat in the oven at 350 degrees or in the air fryer until warm.

Can I use crescent sheets instead of triangle rolls?
Yes. The sheets can be substituted – you can use a pizza cutter to create the triangle slices.
Why did my crescent dough open while baking?
This usually happens if the filling is piled too high or the dough isn’t tucked tightly underneath. Make sure the pointed ends are secured well.
This taco crescent ring uses simple taco ingredients and flaky crescent rolls, making it perfect for an easy family dinner or a fun dish for parties. It comes together quickly, bakes up golden and cheesy, and always disappears fast.
