Charcuterie Board Variations
Traditionally charcuterie was simply meat and cheese, but nowadays if you dream it you can make it. We are even making them into dessert boards.
Last year around this same time I made a Red, white, and blue dessert board for a potluck party. It was easy to put together and was one of the first dishes to go.
Since then I have made charcuterie pinatas, bouquets, salami roses and bacon roses that are simple to create, but look amazing on grazing boards.
One of the reasons I love making charcuterie boards is the ability to mix and match a variety of ingredients. And this is where affordability comes in – select ingredients that fit your budget. You don’t have to include expensive cuts of meats unless you want to!
But today, I’m going to show you how to make your own red, white, and blue snack board that looks Pinterest-worthy. This scratch-made grazing board is sure to elicit “oohs and aahs” from all your guests.

How to Make and Style a 4th of July Snack Board
Choose your board: For this recipe, you will need a larger board and preferably one with raised edges.
Place the bowls: Fill two small bowls with dip and strawberry salsa and place them on the board.
Largest items first: Start adding the tortilla chips and meats first. If you want to turn your meats into something special, follow the instructions for how to make salami roses.
Watermelon: Slice the watermelon into thick slices. Then use a star shaped cookie cutter to cut out the pieces.
Create Skewers: Slice the strawberries in half. On each skewer alternate between the strawberry halves, mozzarella pearls, and blueberries. Then place them on the charcuterie board.
Next largest items: Place the cauliflower, other berries, and bell pepper strips on the board. Spread out the colors.
Remaining spaces: Fill in the holes with smaller items such as crackers, raisins, and pretzels.
How to Make Strawberry Salsa
Dice some strawberries into small pieces and place them in a bowl.
Drizzle with 1-2 tablespoons of honey. Add basil if desired.
Chill until you are ready to serve.
Tips for Making
- Swap out any of the ingredients for your preferred red, white and blue ingredients.
- Depending on the number of guests you are serving, adjust the quantities.
- Assemble the board just before serving for absolute freshness.
- You can make the dip and salsa ahead of time, along with rinsing the fruit to save time when you’re ready to assemble the board.
- If you don’t have a large charcuterie board you can reduce the quantities or ingredients to make a smaller version.
- You can also use a large piece of butcher paper for larger crowds and create the entire “board” on a table instead.
