Tips for Making the Boursin Cheese Recipe

  • If you are using unsalted butter, add an extra pinch of salt to balance the flavors.
  • Make sure the cream cheese and butter come to room temperature before mixing so the texture is smooth.
  • Use a garlic press to make quick work of mincing the garlic cloves.
  • Don’t skip chilling the cheese mixture – it’s important to let all the flavors hang out and get to know each other.
  • For the best flavor, let the spread sit on the counter at room temp for about 20 minutes before serving.

Herbed Cheese Recipe Substitutions & Variations

  • Swap in fresh herbs for brighter flavor; parsley, dill, thyme, or basil all work well with this recipe.
  • Add red pepper flakes or minced jalapeños for a little heat.
  • Try rolling the mounded cheese in chopped nuts or fresh herbs for a pretty addition to your party platter.

What to Serve with Boursin Garlic Herb and Cheese

For a quick appetizer, serve this creamy, garlicky spread with simple pairings like baguette slices, crackers, or fresh veggies. Or make a batch of chicken Boursin pasta for a quick weeknight dinner. And if you’re looking for a steakhouse-style dinner, add a wedge of the herbed cheese to air fried filet mignon steaks.

But it also shines as part of a bigger party spread. Try serving it alongside the BEST classic cheese ball recipe or as part of a cute charcuterie bouquet.

How to Store Leftover Herbed Boursin Cheese

You can keep leftover cheese for up to 5 days in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in plastic wrap.

Is Boursin the same as Gournay cheese?

Yes. Boursin is just a brand name for a type of Gournay cheese.

Can I make a lighter version of this recipe?

You sure can! Just swap in Neufchâtel cheese, which is a lighter cream cheese and usually has about one-third less fat than regular cream cheese.

Making your own Boursin at home is simple and budget-friendly. With just a few herbs, butter and creamy cheese, you’ll have a flavorful cheese spread that’s perfect for parties, holiday gatherings, or just keeping in the fridge for everyday snacking. Once you try my homemade version, you may never buy it from the grocery store again.
