I love cooking with fresh green beans, even though canned and frozen require a bit less prep work. And I think roasted green beans have more texture and flavor. This is also a great recipe to refer back to in the summer months in case you find yourself with an abundance of string beans.

We think the best way to make green beans and other fresh vegetables is in the air fryer because there’s no need to heat up the oven or stand over a hot stove. And we like how it cooks veggies to a crispy perfection in minutes.

Because we are using only seasoning and oil, you’ll be happy to know this tasty dish is low carb and gluten free for those who have intolerances or restrictions.

Veggies are some of the easiest air fryer sides to throw together and the seasoning options are unlimited. We love air fried asparagusbroccoli and caulifloweracorn squashMexican street corn, and artichokes.

Labeled ingredients needed to make air fried green beans.

Ingredients

  • green beans – don’t forget to trim the ends and remove the string if needed.
  • olive oil – this is our go to but you can use avocado oil if preferred.
  • all-purpose seasoning – something similar to Newman’s Own.
  • spray oil – this is to grease the basket.

How to Make Crispy Air Fryer Green Beans

Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.

Toss the beans in a large bowl with the olive oil and seasoning until they are evenly coated.

Use a parchment paper liner (place it in the basket right before adding the beans), or lightly spray the basket with cooking oil.

Add the green beans to the air fryer basket and cook for 4 minutes. Stir, then continue cooking for another 4 minutes or until desired crispiness is achieved.

Tips for Making

  • Be sure to pat the green beans dry. Leaving extra moisture on them makes it difficult for the oil and seasonings to stick to the beans and may result in steamed beans versus crispy ones.
  • Use an oil mister to spray the air fryer basket.
  • Cook in smaller batches if you want them crispier.
  • Smaller beans will require less cooking time compared to larger beans.
  • You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  • This easy recipe is great for meal prep – make a double batch to use throughout the week.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Instead of all-purpose seasoning use garlic powder. Avoid using fresh garlic because it may burn.
  • Toss with a generous amount of parmesan cheese for a cheesy version.
  • Omit the seasoning and just go with salt and black pepper.
  • For a spicy version, add red pepper flakes.

How to Make Crispy Green Beans in the Oven

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. After the beans are coated in the oil and seasoning, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes. At the 15 minute mark, shake the pan then finish cooking. Be sure not to overload the sheet pan or it will result in steamed beans versus crispy.

What to Serve With

I mentioned previously this green beans recipe is a tasty side dish for just about any main dish meal. A few of our favorites are filet mignonchicken thighs, and coconut shrimp.

If you’re going for comfort food, I’d recommend chicken fried steakmeatloaf, or these irresistible meatballs

How to Store Roasted Green Beans

Please note the green beans will be crispiest when they are fresh from the air fryer. But you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheat in the air fryer or microwave for 1-2 minutes or until they are warm.
